Audition Requirements for Junior High

Junior High Students (8th & 9th grade) have a three-part audition. See below for more details. At the bottom of the page, you will find the link for the audition material.

Part 1 - Scales

Junior High auditions will include one major scale from the Junior High scales list and the Chromatic Scale. The major scale will be chosen and posted on the day of auditions. Scales do not have to memorized.

Part II - Etude

Junior High auditions will include a portion of the current year Junior High etude. The portion to be played may be split into two parts or may be one continuous selection. These “cuts” will be selected and posted on the day of auditions.

Part III - Sightreading

Junior High auditions will include an appropriate level and length of sightreading. Students will be given 30 seconds to silently review the sightreading and at the end of 30 seconds will be asked to perform the given sightreading. This does not have to be memorized.
